Possible Escape

One would be correct in speculating that the regeneration process somehow affected his memory which would explain his drastic change in himself and his beloved Tardis.  You could also speculate that perhaps this wasn`t a "real" regeneration, just as before when he just healed himself because he didn`t want to change (why should he, just look at him).

Ten loved the way he was, he loved every minute of it.  He would not have changed unless there was some way of escape, some "get out clause".  Yes, regeneration is a way of cheating death but he really did not want to go.

He protected Donna so she wouldn`t burn up if she remembered him or their time together, so perhaps he found a way of protecting himself besides living on as his half-human self with Rose in the other universe.

That was one way of escape, part of him does live on but even that somehow may not have been enough.  Yes, he wanted to stay with Rose so he gave her the next best thing, a part of him that could really love her.  He knew even then that one day he would change but he wanted her to be happy and he himself finally wanted to be happy and it seemed at the time the only way.

Was it possible he found another way?  Another way to preserve the version of himself that he was happiest the most with?

We know it`s possible to go back and meet another version of himself, he`s done it several times.  Some on purpose, some accidentally and now,  apparently a version he didn`t even remember existed.  With time being the operative word, he could quite possibly go back and be an older version of himself again, the one he really wanted to be and suspend his next regeneration, quite literally turn back time.  If he`d somehow found a way of preserving or going back to being his tenth version.  Yes, it sounds implausible and if any skeptics are still reading who say "you aren`t moving on, it`s all about moving on, the Doctor moves forward not backwards" well no, the Doctor travels in time, he goes backwards and forwards.

Timelords were supposed to only have thirteen regenerations.  We don`t know what regeneration he was in when we first met him.  Did the first time we saw him regenerate count as a one?  The Timelords are all gone, did the rule of only thirteen regenerations go with them?  Think about it - did the first time he regenerated make the second Doctor the first regeneration?  Is that where the "forgotten" version of The Doctor" came from - to make up the numbers?  It`s geting "Timey-Wimey" again.

The laws of time are now his and they will obey him as Ten said, he can do anything.  Time can be re-written so who says he cannot re-write his own time and go back to being the one version he was the most comfortable with?  There`s no-one to stop him
